A native of Scottsboro, Dr. Jose Reyes, Jr. assumed the position of Superintendent in September of 2017. Prior to his service with the Scottsboro City Schools, Dr. Reyes was an administrator in the Tallassee City School System for three years where he served as principal at Tallassee Elementary School, grade K-4. Additionally, he worked in the Alexander City School System for 11 years, serving as a middle school assistant principal, elementary and high school principal, athletic director, and district alternative school coordinator.


His teaching endeavors include seven years as a math instructor at G.W. Long High School in Skipperville, AL and two years as an adjunct professor and distance-learning instructor with Troy University.


His education includes (from Troy University) a B.S. in Math and Physical Education, a M.S. in Math and School Administration, an Ed.S. in School Administration, and (from Alabama State University) an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Law. Dr. Reyes is a 2010 graduate of the Alabama Superintendent’s Academy, was named the 2003 Most Outstanding Graduate Student in Educational Leadership at Troy University, has served as a presenter for the Council of Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) and the Alabama Educational Technology Conference (AETC), and has been a member of strategic planning committees at the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). His most recent organizational service includes membership in the Alabama Council of Leadership Development (ACLD) and the Alabama State Course of Study for World Languages.


Dr. Reyes is married to the former Leslie Ann Harrison of Clayton, AL. They have three children, Christian (21), who is a educator in the Talladega County School System, Rio (19) who is a Freshman at Auburn University, and Gannon (17) who is a junior at Scottsboro High School. In his spare time, Dr. Reyes enjoys officiating high school basketball, where he has appeared in 12 Final Fours in almost 30 years of service. He also is an avid reader with selections focusing on school leadership and organizational culture.
